Created to Create (July 17 Devotional)

Scripture Meditation

Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.” And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of man had built. And the Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.

Genesis 11:4-6

Today’s Thought

Human ingenuity is virtually limitless. Whenever we think we’ve reached our limit, humans seem to find a way. Within a century, we went from being confined to the ground riding horses to flying beyond the reaches of our atmosphere. That’s a part of being created in God’s image. He is, after all, the Creator and the originator of all things creative. The problem is that we often forget where it all comes from.

Hence, the problem at the Tower of Babel. The problem was that they wanted to make a name for themselves for the accomplishments they achieved. In other words, they wanted glory for themselves rather than giving it to God. You were created to create. Be creative, but don’t forget where it all comes from.

Prayer

Father, give me creativity in all aspect of my life. I give you all the glory for everything I make.
