Walk Before God (July 23 Devotional)

Scripture Meditation

When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless, that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly.”

Genesis 17:1-2

Today’s Thought

Walk before me, and be blameless. Those were God’s instructions to Abram. If Abram did that, then God would make his descendents a great nation. The idea of being blameless means to be complete or perfected. It doesn’t necessarily mean being perfect. How do we live blamelessly? We do the first part, walk before God. If we walk before god and allow him to guide our steps, then we can be perfected by him, like a precious metal constantly being purified by burning off the detritus. By doing so, we become who God wants to make us.

Prayer

Lord, help me ot walk before you and follow your guidance. Make me blameless through the continual purifying of my soul.
